Empowering Young Talent: Digital Egypt Cubs Initiative (DECI)

In May 2022, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in partnership with Udacity launched the Digital Egypt Cubs Initiative (DECI) to equip Egypt’s top-performing students with critical IT skills. This initiative, offered free of charge to students from the first year of preparatory school to the second year of secondary school, aims to develop young talent with proven competence in emerging technologies, aligning with Egypt’s national vision for the future workforce.

At immrsv™, we played a key role in making this vision a reality by implementing a comprehensive gamification strategy that transformed the learning experience for DECI participants. Our approach focused on making education more engaging, interactive, and enjoyable for students, thereby enhancing motivation, retention, and overall learning outcomes.

Our gamification strategy played a pivotal role in achieving DECI’s objectives. By transforming traditional learning into an interactive and rewarding experience, we significantly boosted student motivation and participation, laying a strong foundation for their future in the tech industry.

Gamification Methodology:

We began by clearly defining the learning objectives that DECI sought to achieve, ensuring that the gamification elements we introduced would directly support these goals.

We carefully selected game elements such as points, badges, leaderboards, challenges, and rewards that would resonate with the target audience—students across various age groups. These elements were designed to encourage active participation and sustained engagement.

Based on DECI’s needs and budget, we chose an appropriate game engine that could effectively support the desired learning objectives, ensuring a seamless and scalable implementation.

A compelling and immersive storyline was central to our gamification approach. We crafted a narrative that was both engaging and relevant to the students’ learning journey, making the educational content come alive.

We designed game mechanics, including a scoring system, rules, and feedback mechanisms, that aligned with DECI’s learning objectives. These mechanics were crucial in making the gamified experience both educational and enjoyable.

Before launching the gamified content, we conducted rigorous testing with a sample group of students, gathering feedback to refine and enhance the game’s effectiveness and appeal.

Upon launching the gamified learning experience, we closely monitored student progress, engagement, and learning outcomes. This ongoing analysis allowed us to make data-driven improvements and ensure the initiative’s success.
